KIDSFEST SHELLHARBOUR STARTS SUNDAY

The countdown is on to KidsFest Shellharbour 2010, with events kicking off this Sunday! KidsFest Shellharbour 2010 starts this Sunday 9 May with the Mother’s Day Picnic at the Illawarra Light Rail Museum, on Tongarra Road, Albion Park Rail.

The Mother’s Day Picnic is now a tradition, drawing hundreds of children and their families on Day 1 of the week long KidsFest Shellharbour 9-15 May 2010.

KidsFest Shellharbour takes place in the lead up to Families Week, and what better way to start off the festivities than to give children a special time with their families.

KidsFest Shellharbour 2010 has broadened its focus to include children 6-12, as well as pre-schoolers.

The wider community are getting behind KidsFest this year including the St George Illawarra Dragons who have come onboard, conducting a skills session at Warilla North Public School, on Monday 10 May.

Most events are free including the Planes and Fire Engines on Tuesday 11 May, with HARS Museum and NSW Rural Fire Services both at the Illawarra Airport site.  Kids can tour the planes, dress up as an aviator and go to the NSW Rural Fire Service command centre to practice evacuating a house fire.

The Biggest Playgroup at Myimbarr Community Park is sure to draw another huge crowd on Thursday 13 May, where children will have a special visit by Billy Back Pack as well as Aboriginal arts and history storytelling featuring Richard Campbell with the Little Ngargens dancers.

Children can try fishing with Aboriginal Elders on Friday 14 May, at the Lake Illawarrra PCYC.

KidsFest will finish on Saturday 15 May with the Festival Finale featuring entertainment, activities and a fun parade on Shellharbour foreshore.

Children can pick up their free KidsFest Shellharbour passport at events during the festival.  Kids can collect stickers for their passports by attending KidsFest events and KidsFest Play Spots then hand in their completed passport for a lucky dip prize. April_footer
