Inside KidsFest 2010

Issue 6, April 2010

PUT MUM ON THE KIDSFEST TRAIN

Mothers across the Illawarra will take to the trains, at the Mother’s Day Picnic at the Illawarra Light Rail Museum on Sunday May 9, the first day of KidsFest Shellharbour 2010.

Trains big and small will be on hand to give mothers and their families a ride around the museum’s grounds in Tongarra Road, Albion Park Rail.

Event Coordinator Carla Brookes says the Mother’s Day Picnic has been a huge success over the last two years. “As a special treat for Mums this year, we have gifts from local supporting business Baskets Because as lucky door prizes,” she says.

“KidsFest Shellharbour is an activity of Communities for Children Shellharbour funded by the Australian Government that takes place in the lead up to Families Week, and what better way to start off the festivities than to give children a special time with their families.

The event kicks off KidsFest Shellharbour 2010, a week-long festival from 9-15 May celebrating children in Shellharbour City. The full program is now available at www.kidsfestshellharbour.com.au

Carla Brookes says KidsFest Shellharbour 2010 is crammed with activities aimed at children from 0-12 years, their families and carers.

Throughout the week there are more than 60 events being held across Shellharbour City, including:

  • The Children’s Health and Development Expo at Playdays Warilla presented by Barnardos Communities for Children
  • Milking demonstrations at a local dairy farm in Albion Park. Register your child or playgroup by calling Tourism Shellharbour 4221 6169 to attend.
  • The Biggest Playgroup at Myimbarr Community Park
  • HARS and NSW Rural Fire Service are hosing fun activities at Albion Park Airport site
  • The Festival Finale at Little Park in Shellharbour Village.

Children can enjoy the festival even more by picking up their KidsFest passport at major events during the week. Kids can collect stickers for their passports by attending KidsFest events and KidsFest Play Spots, then hand in their completed passport for a lucky dip prize.

For event enquiries contact Tourism Shellharbour 4221 6169.
