KidsFest Shellharbour is a vibrant week-long annual festival that will take place from
20 - 26 May 2012 throughout Shellharbour City area.

This event celebrates and connects Shellharbour’s children 0-12 years, their families and carers.

KidsFest Shellharbour is now in its fourth year. Past events have been overwhelmingly successful drawing strong media attention with over 5,000 people participating in hundreds of activities across 63 festival events around Shellharbour City.

Planning for KidsFest in 2012 is underway and we will be inviting organisations now to join us and be involved in this unique celebration of Shellharbour’s children next year.

KidsFest Shellharbour is an activity of Barnardos Communities for Children Shellharbour, with funding by the Australian Government’s Family Support Program.  The project partners local businesses with community organisations across Shellharbour City.

The overall goal is to work together to celebrate Shellharbour’s children (aged 0-12 years).

We do this by:

  • Supporting the health and early development needs of children;
  • Supporting their parents, families and caregivers;
  • Planning a week long festival that promotes and builds child-friendly communities.

Our sustainability strategy aims to build KidsFest as a key event on the South Coast/NSW festivals' calendar.

2010 KidsFest Shellharbour was overwhelmingly successful with over 3,500 people participating in 110 activities across 64 festival sites around Shellharbour City. The 2010 program featured highlights, such as the Pram Parade along the Shellharbour Foreshore, Cow Milking Demonstrations and The World’s Biggest Playgroup at Blackbutt Reserve.

Also the very popular Baby Rave and Early Childhood Expo at Albion Park, the Mother’s Day Picnic at the Illawarra Light Rail Museum and Ride a Train and Touch a Plane at HARS were all well attended.

New events like the Warilla North Celebration, coordinated by the Warilla North Community Centre and Parents As Teachers, enhanced the appeal of KidsFest Shellharbour.

Businesses with child friendly practices were recognised through the KidsFest PlaySpot program.
